Abstract

Dental implantology is now a well established science for provision of fixed teeth replacements. There are
structural and physiological differences between the peri implant tissues and periodontium. This reflects in
the manner in which an osseo integrated dental implant and a natural tooth respond to microbial or physical
stimuli. The common biological complications associated with dental implants are peri implant mucositis
and periimplantitis. Both conditions are due to inflammatory response to dental biofilm accumulation. This
paper analyses the diagnosis and treatment of peri implant diseases based on current evidence.

Keywords: Peri Implantitis, Peri Implant Mucositis, Dental Implant.
